Morton cycles, the home of the world’s best bicycles

One of the best things about not going away for christmas holidays is pottering about. The ability to cruise around your home town without the crowds and at a pace that permits stopping and looking at things. Today we rode through an old part of south melbourne formerly known as Emerald Hill. It was one of Melbourne’s first municipalities born in the gold rush period of the 1850’s. We stopped for coffee in a row of old verandahed shops

Rivetted steel beam supporting the floor of the cafe.

The shop next door was owned by architects but it was the old bike with its wooden rims hanging from the wall that caught our eye. My mate Leon pointed out that the shop had housed Morton Cycles and that many years before, he had bought his motor pace bike from that very shop.
Stay tuned for a pic of Leon’s resto project.
